Opening Gala |
The Opening Gala was sponsored by BAE Systems and took place at Prestwick Airport, where Zisys Events converted part of the airport concourse into an auditorium. The audience was welcomed by the Dalmellington Youth Brass Band with a selection of aviation-related music, before the first showing of a specially-commissioned DVD, An Opening in the Clouds, to an audience of 250. |
The DVD, a history of a hundred years of aviation at Prestwick, was produced by Ashley Dick, who had just graduated from the University of the West of Scotland, and scripted by George Kerevan. It featured a new music commission by Irvine-born composer David Paul Jones, The Sky’s Harbour, made possible by funding from Creative Scotland, BAE Systems and South Ayrshire Council. |
